Warsaw 2027 | Curatorial Statement

​

The space between becomes a field of possibilities.

An open field is not an empty space waiting to be filled. It is a space in which relationships have not yet been determined, where distinct presences may encounter one another without surrendering their individuality.

MINORIA began with an inquiry into what escapes immediate recognition: a trace, an absence, a concealed light, the moment before perception becomes certainty. Through its successive chapters in Venice and international presentations, it has developed a language of attention to what exists between the visible and the invisible, between matter and memory, between an artwork and the experience of its viewer.

In 2027, MINORIA enters a new context.

Warsaw introduces another dimension to this inquiry. A city in which continuity and rupture coexist, where histories are continually encountered, reconstructed and reinterpreted, becomes the setting for a different question: not only what remains hidden within an individual work, but what may emerge between independent artistic worlds.

OPEN FIELD does not seek a common visual language. It does not ask artists to illustrate an idea, respond to a prescribed subject or demonstrate their belonging to a predetermined aesthetic.

Instead, it welcomes difference.

​

Each work enters the exhibition with its own history, materiality, rhythm and autonomy. Through proximity, contrast, resonance and sometimes resistance, new relationships become possible. A meaning that was absent from an individual work may emerge in the presence of another.

The exhibition is not simply the sum of its works. It is also what happens between them.

In this sense, curating becomes an act of listening rather than imposing. The curator does not seek confirmation of an existing interpretation, but remains attentive to connections that neither the artists nor the curator could fully anticipate.

OPEN FIELD inaugurates the Warsaw chapter of MINORIA as an ongoing curatorial investigation — one that understands artistic freedom not as the absence of relationships, but as the possibility of creating them without erasing difference.

What matters is not only what each work reveals, but what becomes perceptible because another work is there.
